WWE SummerSlam to emanate from Barclays Center in Brooklyn

This year's SummerSlam has finally found a home, and that home will be the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., according to a report from the New York Daily News.

The news comes nearly three months after the WWE was forced to look for a new home for the show after the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority voted to shut down its original venue, the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J., due to rising financial losses.

While the rest of the Izod Center's events were moved to the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., the WWE decided to put the event in New York, which is where the event debuted back in 1988. An official announcement will be made some time Thursday.

"SummerSlam in New York matches one of the most iconic sports and entertainment celebrations with one of the world's greatest cities," John Saboor, WWE executive vice president for special events told the New York Daily News.

SummerSlam will be taking place outside of Los Angeles for the first time since 2008, where the WWE held the event at the Staples Center six years in a row.

"We thought it made great sense to come back to the East Coast," Saboor told the New York Daily News. "and we could not think of a better host city."

"Brooklyn is an international brand and is the perfect stage for a major global event like SummerSlam," Barclays Center CEO Brett Yorkman told the New York Daily News.

Tickets will go on sale for the event March 14 at 10 a.m.
