WWE Raw results (07/21/14): 12 observations from this week's episode

The WWE got the wheels rolling toward Summerslam this past Monday night in a number of different ways.

There is a lot to cover coming out of the show, so let's not waste any more time. Let's get straight into the match results from Miami:

- Roman Reigns def. Kane & Randy Orton

- Alicia Fox, Cameron, Eva Marie & Rosa Mendes def. Nikki Bella

-  Bo Dallas def. Damien Sandow (LeBron James)

- Dolph Ziggler def. The Miz

- AJ Lee & Paige def. Natalya & Emma

- Zack Ryder def. Fandango

- RybAxel def. Kofi Kingston & Big E

- Rusev def. The Great Khali

- Cesaro def. Dean Ambrose via disqualification

Now, let's delve deeper into the show with my highlights and observations:

Brock Lesnar returns, challenges John Cena at Summerslam

Alas, the inevitable happened. Brock Lesnar, the man who ended The Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania, returned to the WWE as Paul Heyman's "Plan C" for Triple H.

With a simple handshake, Triple H made the match between John Cena and Lesnar at Summerslam for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

We've known this was going to happen for a while now, so it kind of took away from the surprise and the enormity of the moment, in my opinion. However, Heyman's promo to end the show was great enough for me to get excited to see this match.

So the question now is: Where does the WWE go from here?

I'd imagine we're going to see Lesnar good amount leading up Summerslam, but how often exactly? Is he going to be on the show every week?

I personally don't have a problem with him not being there every week. Lesnar doesn't like traveling and him being on television all the time takes away from the attraction.

What if he goes on to defeat Cena and win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship? Would Lesnar change his stance on his schedule or will he be seen on television every once in a while?

Having Lesnar in this match and potentially the next WWE World Heavyweight Champion is what's best for business regardless of his schedule. It's what's best for business for the man who ended The Undertaker's streak and for the guy that's the next to defeat him in the middle of the ring.

Stephanie McMahon arrested after slapping Brie Bella

In a less serious chain event of events, Stephanie McMahon was arrested Monday night and spent the night in a Miami jail.

Let's start from the beginning. For what seemed like the 44th week in a row, McMahon booked Nikki Bella in a handicap match. It just so happened that Brie Bella bought a front-row ticket to see the show.

Once McMahon notices she was there, she scolded the Bella Twins on the microphone. After Brie Bella called her a word that rhymes with witch, she slapped Brie Bella. The only problem was that Brie Bella was technically a fan and pressed charges against McMahon, which resulted in a hilarious segment.

After Flo Rida's boring and mundane performance, two cops look that looked like they stepped right out of Miami Vice informed McMahon that she was being charged with battery and being taken into custody.

McMahon pleaded and cried in an effort to change their minds, but they didn't. Instead they slapped the handcuffs on her and hauled her off to jail.

I thought this was one of the highlights of the show. McMahon plays her role of heel so well and she really shined her while being taken to the slammer. It reminded me of The Mountie being hauled off to a New York City jail after losing to the Big Boss Man years ago.

Not to mention McMahon being taken to jail made perfect sense. In storyline, Brie Bella doesn't work for the WWE anymore. She quit at Payback. With that being the case, she would be well within her rights to call the police on McMahon if this were to happen in real life.

I also love that Triple H was in no real hurry to get McMahon out of jail after telling her that she would be out in "five minutes."

What I love the most is that The Authority looks bad again, which is necessary to keep the checks and balances going on the show. McMahon did about a month ago with Vickie Guerrero and she did it again here. She played the role well both times.

Flo Rida is not very good at rap

I'm an avid listener of rap music new and old, and I'm being nice when I say that Flo Rida is not very good at rap.

Is he a mainstream star in music? Yeah. Does he have a couple of hits that people may or may not remember? Yeah, but what purpose did his performance serve Monday other than the prelude to McMahon getting arrested?

His set list consisted of songs he played two years ago at WrestleMania, which means he hasn't had any new hits since.

The WWE showed a handful of fans in the audience that danced along and seemed to enjoy the music, but again, he does have some catchy songs and choruses. But that's it.

I tend to believe that the majority of wrestling fans didn't care to see him come back and do nothing special. Shoving Heath Slater to the ground again does not count.

The Wyatt Family takes over the Highlight Reel

Bray Wyatt was scheduled to be a guest on the Highlight Reel with Chris Jericho, but put the kibosh on that by beating him up before the segment.

Instead, Wyatt took matters into his hands and hosted the segment himself. What followed was a lengthy promo about how losing one battle does not matter to him, but winning the war does.

To me, it doesn't matter how much Wyatt loses. As long as he can cut those promos and he keeps his current presentation, people are going to take him seriously regardless.

A lot of people complained that him losing to Jericho at Battleground was the WWE burying him. That's not true, in my eyes. It was more done to get Jericho some credibility back.

Wyatt looked as strong as ever Monday night and will look even stronger when he defeats Jericho at Summerslam.

Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston, Big E joining forces

That's the way it looked Monday, as Xavier Woods jumped into the ring donning a suit very reminiscent to Brother Love and told Kofi Kingston and Big E, fresh off a loss to RybAxel, that they're not going to ask anything anymore. They're simply going to take it.

Kingston and Big E seemed to agree with Woods' assessments and we may have something here.

This is a good thing for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it gives each of these guys something to do other than wrestling random, cold matches every week. They all have talent and should be involved in something of some merit.

It also gives Kingston and Big E a chance to be heels. Kingston has never been a heel during his WWE run and Big E may have a higher ceiling as a heel than a babyface.

Finally, it gives Woods a chance to show what he's capable. He gets a chance to show his intelligence, as he is really pursuing his Ph.D. outside of the ring. More importantly, it gives him the microphone and a chance to prove himself as a mouthpiece.

No, this is not the new Nation of Domination. This is hopefully something different, but I'm intrigued either way.

Dolph Ziggler and Zack Ryder won matches

Did we go back to 2011 Monday night? It looked like it because both Dolph Ziggler and Zack Ryder won matches on Raw. Ryder even got an entrance for the second in a row. When was the last time that happened?

The WWE has made wins and losses mean little to nothing on television, but I was genuinely happy for these two.

It's amazing to think about where these two were once upon a time. Ryder was the United States Champion and had a ton of Internet buzz going for him.

Ziggler was eventually the World Heavyweight Champion. Both looked primed for stardom, but they could actually be lower on the card than they were before.

Dolph Ziggler, The Miz have a great match

Ryder's match wasn't anything to write home about, but Ziggler's match with The Miz was.

Ziggler and The Miz are both capable performers and showed that if given the proper time that they could deliver a great match together.

It was without question the best match of the night. Unfortunately for The Miz, he lost his first match as Intercontinental Champion. I'm not sure that does him any favors.

Paige turns on AJ Lee

In another expected turn of events, Paige turned on WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee after their victory over Natalya and Emma.

Paige has been pretending to be friends with AJ Lee ever since losing the Divas title to her a couple of weeks ago.

As it turns out, Paige was waiting for the right moment to strike and she did Monday. I guess their match at Battleground wasn't a good time.

Like I've said before, I think Paige could excel as a heel moving forward. She was a heel on NXT once upon a time and it's a role she seems more natural in.

Hopefully, their matches moving forward can be better than their match at Battleground, which was average at best.

Emma returns

Speaking of Emma, she returned to Raw Monday a couple weeks after her run in with the law at a Wal Mart in in Hartford, Conn.

I hope that incident didn't derail her career within the company. She's a talented performer that would be wasted with a demotion way down the card. But I guess this is better than the WWE outright firing her like it did at first.

Damien Sandow dresses up like LeBron James again

Since Raw was in Miami, the WWE saw it as a good time to dress up Damien Sandow as former Miami Heat forward LeBron James.

Sandow dressed as James before when the WWE was in Indianapolis, Ind. right after James and the Heat eliminated the Indiana Pacers from the playoffs for the third year in a row.

The only problem was that he went up against Bo Dallas, who is a heel. The crowd in Miami wanted to boo Sandow for dressing up like James, but didn't really want to cheer the smarmy Dallas.

They just sat in the audience confused. Jerry "The King" Lawler even acknowledged that the fans didn't know who to cheer for.

Does the WWE not realize that is a bad thing? If the people don't know who to cheer for, they may not cheer at all.

Triple H begins show with funny promo

The Game's promo at the beginning of the show was kind of funny. The line about him and his friend "Mark" not watching the product anymore after Cena won again was pretty damn funny to me.

Why? Because it had elements of truth. He essentially clowned fans for whining and complaining only to come back and watch every single week. Why? Because they need something to compain about.

Randy Orton walks out on Kane for no reason

For whatever reason, Randy Orton just walked out Kane during the opening match against Roman Reigns.

It came kind of sudden and out of nowhere and didn't get much of a reaction.
