WWE NXT results and observations (3/1/17): The ecstasy of gold

This week's episode of NXT was all about championship gold, as two of the promotion's three titles were on the line while the other will be defended in two weeks.

We'll start the recap with the main event, which featured the Authors of Pain defending their NXT Tag Team titles against #DIY.

Unlike their match at NXT Takeover: San Antonio, this match did not see a decisive conclusion, as The Revival ran to the ring and attacked both teams.

The Revival quickly dispatched Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, but drew the ire of the Authors, who were ready to pounce.

However, The Revival turned the tables and managed to hit Akam with the shatter machine to close out the show. It seems clear as day that we are headed toward a triple threat match between these three teams at NXT Takeover: Orlando.

The other championship that was defended Wednesday night was the NXT Women's title, as Asuka successfully defended it against Peyton Royce.

After the match, Royce and Billie Kay attacked the champion, but Ember Moon ran to the ring to even the odds. Once the ring was clear of Royce and Kay, Asuka and Moon stared each other down.

Asuka put an exclamation point of sorts on the stare down by raising the title that she has held for nearly a year in the air.

As for the NXT championship, NXT general manager William Regal announced Wednesday that current champion Bobby Roode will have his first title defense against Kassius Ohno on the March 15 episode of NXT, which was taped at the CFE Arena in Orlando, Fla.

Here are the full match results:

- Patrick Clark def. Sean Maluta

- NXT Women's championship – Asuka def. Peyton Royce

- NXT Tag Team championship – Authors of Pain def. #DIY via disqualification
