WWE NXT results and observations (10/26/16): Mickie James is back

Two more first-round matchups in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and the return of a former WWE Women's champion highlighted this week's episode of NXT.

We begin with the latter, as Asuka won in dominant fashion yet again, but was confronted by NXT general manager William Regal following the contest.

Regal told her that he finally found the worthy opponent she had been looking for. He then pointed to the video board and that was when Mickie James popped and said that she was going to face Asuka for the NXT Women's championship at NXT Takeover: Toronto.

It goes without saying that adding James to the Takeover card is a major coup for NXT. James is a former Women's champion and had one of the best Women's title matches in WrestleMania history with Trish Stratus at WrestleMania 22.

On top of that, James has enough name value that it will lend Asuka even more credibility after she successfully defends her title.

As far as the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, collectively known as #DIY, advanced to the second round of the tournament after defeating HoHo Lun and the debuting Tian Bing.

With the win, Ciampa and Gargano will face their arch nemesis and current NXT Tag Team champions, The Revival, in the second round.

In the evening's other first-round matchup, Kota Ibushi and WWE Cruiserweight champion T.J. Perkins topped Lince Dorado and Mustafa Ali in a very entertaining main event.

Ibushi and Perkins now move on to face the unpredictable Sanity in the second round.

Elsewhere on the program, Liv Morgan attempted get some revenge on Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, but was unsuccessful once again.
