WWE NXT results and observations (09/28/16): No one is ready for Asuka

After weeks of very little happening on NXT's television show, business picked up with a very eventful installment this past Wednesday night.

The biggest news coming out of the show was the announcement of the return of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

NXT general manager William Regal opened the program by announcing that the tournament was returning next week and will culminate at NXT Takeover: Toronto Nov. 19.

The single-elimination tournament will feature 16 teams, but as of this writing only four have been announced.

The first team announced was the pairing of Bobby Roode and Tye Dillinger. The two came together after Dillinger defeated Angelo Dawkins in the show's opening match. After the win, Roode confronted Dillinger as he was making his way up the ramp.

Roode said that one of the reasons why he signed with NXT was because he wanted to win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, but since he hasn't made many friends since arriving, he doesn't have a partner.

He said that he and Dillinger could make for a glorious combination. Dillinger thought about it for a couple of seconds, as the fans loudly encouraged him to team up with Roode.

After giving it some thought, Dillinger agreed.

The first match in the tournament was announced later in the show, as NXT Tag Team champions The Revival will face the makeshift team of Andrade "Cien" Almas and Cedric Alexander. The fourth team announced for the tournament Wednesday was Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa.

Elsewhere on the show, NXT's two most dominant forces, Samoa Joe and Asuka, continued to dominate Wednesday night.

The aforementioned Revival was scheduled to face the Ealy Brothers, but Joe beat the champions to the ring and took out the massive twin brothers all by himself. He then grabbed the microphone and said that the beatings will continue until Regal either hands him NXT champion Shinsuke Nakamura or the NXT championship.

As for Asuka, she made quick work of Liv Morgan. Morgan landed a drop kick at the beginning of the match, but Asuka never even left her feet. All it really did was making her more upset.

About a minute later, Asuka wrestled Morgan to the ground and locked her in a painful looking submission hold, which forced Morgan to submit.

Morgan was brave, but not very intelligent for going after Asuka.

After the match, Asuka was asked what is next for her. She said that no woman on the NXT roster is ready for her. I tend to agree.

A potential opponent down the line for Asuka is Ember Moon, who defeated former Tough Enough contestant Mandy Rose in relatively easy fashion Wednesday.

NXT's most dominant tag team, the Authors of Pain, won in easy fashion yet again, but this time, their manager Paul Ellering actually spoke after the match.

He didn't say much besides that more pain was on the way. Since they're the authors of it, I already expected that.

In the main event, we saw Hideo Itami defeat WWE Cruiserweight Classic participant Lince Dorado.

Here are the full match results:

- Tye Dillinger def. Angelo Dawkins

- Ember Moon def. Mandy Rose

- Authors of Pain def. Jesus Yurnet & Jonathan Cruz

- Asuka vs. Liv Morgan

- Hideo Itami def. Lince Dorado
