WWE Money in the Bank 2014: Results and observations from the show

The Money in the Bank pay-per-view always proves to be an eventful show, and the fans at the TD Garden in Boston got just that show.

The questions, however, was it a good show?

While it wasn't a bad pay-per-view per say, but there wasn't a whole lot inherently great about it overall. Sure, there were some high points, but when you take a step back and look at the event from a wide view, Money in the Bank was a mostly average event.

Before we go in-depth into the happenings that took place in Boston, let's take a look at the full match results:

- WWE Tag Team Championship – The Usos def. The Wyatt Family (Luke Harper & Erick Rowan)

- WWE Divas Championship – Paige def. Naomi

- Adam Rose def. Paul Revere (Damien Sandow)

- Seth Rollins wins the Money in the Bank briefcase

- Stardust & Goldust def. RybAxel

- Rusev def. Big E

- Layla def. Summer Rae

- John Cena wins the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Now, let's go through my thoughts and observations from Money in the Bank:

John Cena wins the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

The sum of every Internet wrestling fan's fears came to fruition Sunday, as John Cena climbed the ladder and hooked the title belts to become a 15-time world champion.

Yes, that is 15 times, which is only one behind Ric Flair for the most recognized world title reigns in wrestling history. At least that's what the WWE tells me all the time.

Why would fans be frustrated by the fact that Cena won the title again? It's because they've seen it time and time and time and time again. There's absolutely nothing new about it.

With Daniel Bryan hurt, the WWE played the safe bet and put the titles on its No. 1 draw in Cena. There's nothing wrong with that from a business stand point. In fact, it make a lot of sense, but the fans wanted to see a new star take the next step up the ladder, no pun intended, and become champion.

People were really behind Cesaro, Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt because they were the only ones in the match that have yet to win a world championship. With Bryan's injury forcing the title to be vacated, it looked as if the WWE had a prime opportunity to elevate someone.

However, there's one major problem with that. His name is Brock Lesnar. If the reports are true, then Lesnar is line to receive a title shot at Summerslam, which he almost assuredly going to win. He did end The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak the last time he was in the ring after all.

Putting Cesaro or Reigns in that position would do more harm than good. Nobody wants to be a transitional champion, especially guys that could use the extra steam.

The reason why I picked Wyaty was because I figured that if he won the title that he wouldn't face Lesnar. That the WWE would go in a different direction. That didn't happen obviously. So, it looks like Cena will be a transitional champion to lose to Lesnar at Summerslam, which is something he will recover from.

The match itself was good, but it wasn't nearly the best Money in the Bank match I've ever seen. The craziest thing I remember seeing during the match was Orton's face covered in blood. Other than that it was solid.

Seth Rollins wins Money in the Bank contract thanks to Kane

This ladder match was, in my opinion, the match of the night. There were so many insane spots that I stopped counting at like 20.

Kudos must go to Seth Rollins, who has puts his body on the line time and time again. He took some of the craziest bumps during this match, which made me seriously wonder how this man is going to be able to walk once his career ends.

I know he does a lot of cross fit training, but man, the human body wasn't meant to take such damage.

The only problem I had with this match was the finish. It wasn't the fact that Rollins won. In fact, I predicted him to win if Bad News Barrett wasn't able to perform. It was the fact that Kane helped him.

Sure, it makes sense given the whole Authority thing, but it just felt unnecessary to me and it took people out of the match. People were enjoying everything that was being offered, but once Kane's music hit it just took the air out of everyone's sails. It hurt the match, in my opinion.

Was Rollins the right decision to win the briefcase? I think so. Since he just turned heel, why not add some credibility to him by having him win the Money in the Bank match. His former tag team partner Dean Ambrose had a great showing as well and the fans in Boston were over the moon for him. Ambrose is making for a great babyface after the conventional wisdom was that he would make for a great heel. He's great either way.

Daniel Bryan doesn't know when he's returning

That wasn't good news. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion was in Boston Sunay night and provided an update on the status of his neck injury.

Bryan told the world that he is unaware of when he will return, as the strength in one of his arms has yet to return to where he would like it. He was able to do "Yes!" chants during his entrance, which seems sort of encouraging. He also said that the doctors may have him undergo another surgery at some point. That's not good news either.

I believe Bryan will be back by the end of the year. That's just my guess. I highly doubt he will be back by Summerslam. There's no need to rush him back anyway. He needs time to get back to 100 percent.

Should The Usos have retained WWE Tag titles?

I'm not upset at all that The Usos retained their WWE Tag Team Championships. I'm actually a huge fan of theirs.

I just thought that it was time for them to drop the belts to The Wyatt Family. The Usos have had them for a couple of months, but their run has been uneventful. It's not their fault, however, as the tag team division is nothing like it was six months ago.

On top of that, the Wyatts have been coming on strong lately and to me it just made perfect sense for them to win.

The two teams put on a great opening match and in hindsight I guess it was the right decision for The Usos to win. They needed a strong title defense, which is something they haven't had quite yet. I believe winning at Money in the Bank does more for them besides retaining the titles. It also adds some more credibility to the team.

Big E, Rusev put on an entertaining match

The feud between Big E and Rusev has little to no steam in it, but these two massive stars are capable of putting on entertaining matches and they did so Sunday night.

The highlight was Big E's spear to the outside of the ring looks so dangerous. You would think the WWE may advise against a move like that with Bryan on the shelf, but Big E has done it multiple times. It looks crazy every time he doesn't. It looks like he DDTs himself, which can't feel good.

Also, Rusev and Lana are great as a tandem. I believe the WWE is building Rusev the right way. When he is finally toppled at some point, it will be a major moment.

Second half of show was lame

The final hour or so of the show slowed it down to a grinding halt. Stardust and Goldust versus RybAxel was uneventful and the Layla-Summer Rae match was just nothing. I don't think there was a single person outside the three people in the ring that genuinely cared about that match.

Putting those matches on the back half hurt the pay-per-view in my opinion. I think it even hurt the main event. Usually, you have those matches so the people can save their energy for the big matches. I think it backfired in this case, as the fans were just disinterested in the main event.

Brie Bella's phone is hooked up to titantron?

I shouldn't have to ask this question, but the WWE inexplicably put it in my head when Brie Bella showed Stephanie McMahon a video on her phone, but it was somehow blown up on the titantron for everyone to see.

You mean to tell me that no one in the WWE thought that was stupid? They couldn't just have Brie Bella tell Stephanie McMahon what the video was? We had to actually see it? Why? Because we've suddenly forgotten what she would have been talking about? I don't think that's the case.
