TNA Impact Wrestling report (07/22/15): Matt Hardy earns a shot at gold

Although the latest episode of Impact Wrestling lacked the presence of TNA World Heavyweight champion Ethan Carter III, it was still an overall solid effort on Destination America on Wednesday night.

The biggest story coming out of the show was that Matt Hardy became the No. 1 contender to ECIII's title via his tables-match victory over Bobby Roode. The match was good despite a rather predictable outcome, as Hardy being a babyface going up against a heel ECIII makes more sense than Roode, a heel.

We also got a chain match between Eric Young and Rockstar Spud that was mostly dominated by and won by Young.

I don't know why TNA would have a chain match and a tables match on the same show, but when you don't have a real pay-per-view that you're building toward, this is what happens, I guess.

Because of TNA's murky situation with Hernandez, it was forced to air another match from the past. For those who don't know, Hernandez appeared on TNA television a couple of weeks ago while he was still technically under contract to Lucha Underground. Because TNA didn't do its due diligence in making sure that Hernandez was no longer contractually obligated to Lucha Underground, the organization is forced to do away with anything involving him on television or face legal action.

In Hernandez's spot this week was the King of the Mountain match from Slammiversary. The guys worked hard, but that match is just horrible from a stipulation standpoint. There is just way too much going on.

A lot of angles and stories were furthered on Wednesday night, as well.

Drew Galloway attempted to get his hands on former running mate Eli Drake after Drake turned on him last week. Drake narrowly escaped Galloway's wrath.

Two-thirds of the Dollhouse was not so lucky, as Jade and Marti Bell were locked in a cage with Gail Kim. Former Knockouts champion Taryn Terrell was on the outside trying to avoid current champion Brooke while Kim got the better of Jade and Bell.

Speaking of the women, James Storm's Revolution faction added its first female member: Serena Deeb, who will join Storm to go up against Magnus and Mickie James on next week's Impact Wrestling.

Tigre Uno continued to essentially talk to himself this week, as his attempts to get the attention of Donald Trump will no doubt fail. And finally, Dixie Carter announced Jeff Jarrett as the newest member of the TNA Hall of Fame.

I know the TNA Hall of Fame doesn't mean a ton, but it really is a long time coming for Jarrett, as he founded the promotion with his father, Jerry.

Here are the complete match results from the program:

- Bram def. Magnus

- Chain match – Eric Young def. Rockstar Spud

- Tables match – Matt Hardy def. Bobby Roode
