Samoa Joe wins NXT championship at live event in Massachusetts

In a shocking development, Samoa Joe defeated Finn Balor to become the new NXT champion during an NXT live event Thursday night in Lowell, Mass.

Joe's victory represents his first title win since joining NXT in 2015. Balor's loss ends the longest reign in the history of the NXT championship at 292 days. Balor won the title all the way back on July 4, 2015.

Balor's loss also fuels speculation that he will be receiving a call-up to WWE's main roster soon to get involved with his former Bullet Club running mates Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows.

Time will tell on that, but what is known is that Joe has supplanted Balor as the top man in NXT.
