The quick-serve giant, which maintains an air of sourcing sustainable ingredients, cites "increasing weather volatility or other long-term changes in global weather patterns, including any changes associated with global climate change."
Chipotle has not issued a public statement on the threat since the filing, which got major play on ThinkProgress, a liberal blog.
The company says it uses 97,000 pounds of avocados a day.
Drought-stricken California is a major supplier.
In the short term, anyway, Chile right now has a bumper crop, according to the Hass Avocado Board.
