Vecchia opens in Wayne

Last week, Frank Nattle got a Main Line outlet as a second Vecchia opened at 134 N. Wayne Ave. (484-580-6135).

Frank Nattle burst onto the regional pizza scene a little more than two years ago with Vecchia, his simple-as-pie pizzeria in downtown Phoenixville.

Nattle had been at it for a while. While working at the now-closed Brick Oven Bread & Cheese Shop down the street, he experimented after hours in the still-warm oven.

For Vecchia, he hired a craftsman from Naples to build his oven and wisely decided to keep it simple: two kinds of 13-inch Margherita pies, a tomato pie, and a white pizza - no sandwiches, no salads, no platters.

And the crowds keep coming.

Last week, Nattle got a Main Line outlet as a second Vecchia opened at 134 N. Wayne Ave. (484-580-6135).

Nattle and new business partner Tim McGowan brought the oven guy back and retained Berzinsky Architects to create an Old World-meets-contemporary look, with tufted red banquettes, parquet floor and wooden booths.

Menu is just pizza and salad, BYOB. It's open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

The town now has a surfeit of Italian options, what with the opening of Arde across the street.
