Thoreau (1033 Spring Garden St.), which opened only Feb. 2, is closed, chef/owner Mike Jackson has confirmed.

"Kind of a big mess" is how Jackson described the situation with his partners. He said they differed over work being done on an outdoor seating area.

He said he's back at Blue Sage, his vegetarian place in Southampton, "with my tail between my legs -- but energized," he said sheepishly.

What is Mike Jackson's policy on refunding gift cards--for which Thoreau accepted payment but did not provide the service? I purchased a gift card for a Vegan friend's birthay, approximately $75. She never got a chance to use it, because Thoreau closed its doors, and it's almost a year later and she STILL has yet to received a discount. I never got a chance to eat at Thoreau, but that experience has left a bad taste in my mouth.
