The hottest restaurant block in Washington Square West

Coming soon: Asian food, Italian sandwiches, sausages, and healthy prepared foods - all within 100 feet or so.

The 1100 block of Walnut Street - home to long-running establishments such as the Forrest Theatre, Moriarty's, the Irish Pub, and Caribou Cafe - is in the throes of change.

Heading west along the north side of the street from the Wendy's, on the northwest corner of 11th and Walnut:

At 1105 Walnut St. the Willow Grove pan-Asian sleeper hit Colonial Quy-Bau is planning a second location, to open in two months or so, said owner Corey Nguyen.

At 1107 Walnut St., next to Top Tomato, the Italian sandwich shop Matt & Marie's is preparing to start work on its third location (the flagship is at Two Logan Square, while its Rittenhouse offshoot just opened at 118 S. 18th St.).

At 1109 Walnut St. is Bareburger, the burger bar.

At the other half of 1109 Walnut St. is a soon-to-open branch of Snap Kitchen, the healthful prepared-foods shop.

At 1111-13 Walnut St., Destination Dogs, opening in late spring, will be a bar whose specialty is the hot dog. The location last was Farmers' Cabinet.

And then at 1121 Walnut, Petruce et al. is newly closed, looking for a new tenant.
