Southern jazz restaurant coming to North Broad

Robert and Benjamin Bynum are planning to open a restaurant whose name and concept are under wraps.

The space that housed Route 6 at Broad and Mount Vernon Streets has new tenants.

They're brothers Robert and Benjamin Bynum, and they will be installing a rustic, Southern restaurant with a jazz room at 600 N. Broad St.

Its name has not been determined.

"This will be our return to Broad Street," Robert Bynum said, referring to their jazz-themed Zanzibar Blue, which they launched in 1990 at 305 S. 11th St. before moving it downstairs at the Bellevue until it closed in 2007.

The concept will be casual.

The Bynums are behind a series of restaurants including Warmdaddy's in South Philadelphia and Heirloom and Paris Bistro in Chestnut Hill.

Stephen Starr operated the space as Route 6, a shore-theme seafooder. It closed in March 2014 after 2½ years.

Its neighbors in the former Wilkie auto dealership are Vie - the elegant catering venue - and the Vetri-owned Alla Spina, an Italian bar.
