Two weeks after GQ named Rooster Soup Co. to its list of best new restaurants in America, Food & Wine did the same.
The food mag says it embarked on a six-month, 45,000-mile journey in 20 cities to cull its list, which includes New York's Le Coucou, the Stephen Starr/chef Daniel Rose joint that just won the James Beard Award for best new restaurant in America. (See F&W's list here.)
Rooster Soup, which opened in January in the basement of 1516 Sansom St. after a Kickstarter campaign, is a partnership among Steve Cook and Mike Solomonov's CookNSolo restaurants (Zahav, Dizengoff, Abe Fisher, Goldie), Federal Donuts, and Broad Street Ministry, whose Broad Street Hospitality Collaborative receives 100 percent of profits.
Food & Wine editor Nilou Motamed called chef Erin O'Shea's menu "accessible, delicious, and impressively resourceful—rooted in upcycled food waste, no less—and the project shows how food and philanthropy can walk hand-in-hand.”
