The crew behind Farmers’ Cabinet (1113 Walnut St.) will tackle a new project at the Frank Furness-designed former bank building at 600 Spring Garden St. that has spent recent memory as a series of sketchy clubs (Transit, 90 Degrees).

The main floor, with its three-story-high ceiling, will be transformed into what they say will be the city's largest beer hall, a beast featuring more than 85 taps.

The menu will consist of a blend of Southern-style barbecues, served family style. The downstairs will feature authentic Tiki drinks and offer a Pan-Asian menu. The third floor will be utilized as an in-house brewery/distillery.

The bottom two floors are projected to open in the spring of 2012 with the brewery/distillery opening sometime during the fall.

Stay tuned for the name.

85 taps, nice! Bet they could go even more, hopefully it's loaded with imports too, not just the local fare which is getting a bit boring.

Don't be sucking at all those taps and then driving. It might be nice to live to return another day.

Hmmm . . . wonder if Farmer's Cabinet is destined to follow Fork and Barrel on this ladder climb. Wouldn't be surprised. And wouldn't want to be FC landlord.

agreed. how are these jokers still in business? its a nice business model - find an expensive motif, dont pay the rent, and sign the lease for the new place before the old place calls the sheriff... hey guys, east falls remembers and doesnt appreciate it...

If they sell locally grown, organic food & locally brewed beer, they will make a killing.

finally this building will house a business catering to a demographic that will not shoot guns but will spend money. Real money, not food stamps like the clientele at the old businesses in this building. This beer hall will be a great success as long as they remember to enforce some kind of dress code and let the DJ know, if you play one hiphop song, YOU'RE FIRED!

I'm sorry... Southern barbecue on one floor and Pan-Asian on another? Maybe they should serve corned beef and cabbage in the foyer? What ever happened to one concept? This sounds like they're trying to do way too much.
