Philly food on TV: Of tacos and wiseguys

Aarón Sánchez's "Taco Trip" has a date on Cooking Channel, while Collingswood's Angelo Lutz is down for Food Network's "Cutthroat Kitchen."

Back in late October, chef Aarón Sánchez was in town to sample tacos for his Cooking Channel series

Taco Trip

.

Well, the episode has a date: Jan. 13 at 9:30 p.m., when Sanchez samples Union Taco's Philly cheesesteak taco, a scrapple taco at Sancho Pistola's, a Thai duck fusion taco at Tuk Tuk Real, and a cauliflower taco from La Calaca Feliz.

One of the Philly area's more colorful chefs, Angelo Lutz of Kitchen Consigliere Cafe in Collingswood, will turn up as a contestant on Food Network's Cutthroat Kitchen on Dec. 7 (10 p.m.).

Lutz, who in the olden days fed Joey Merlino and other associates, served several years in prison for racketeering and extortion - hence his catch phrase "I'm a cook, not a crook." His food is legit.

The Christmas-theme episode is titled "Sabotage Is Comin' to Town," and the typically-vague plot line goes like this: "Three chefs play white elephant to determine their sabotages for their ham dinner. Later, two chefs gather around the tree to open presents filled with their new ingredients. Lastly, a chef cooks their holiday cookies in a fireplace."

Oh, yule be sorry.
