Majolica closing Saturday

Majolica, chef Andrew Deery and wife Sarah Johnson's well-regarded BYOB in Phoenixville, will end its nearly four-year run with dinner service Saturday night (2/28), its hostess confirmed Wednesday.

One of the three-bell darlings of the circuit and a bright spot in the town's revival, Majolica has been done in by the economy. A year ago, the couple cut hours when their daughter was born.

Update: Majolica reconsidered its decision to close; it's open.

I had heard Majolica was closing but that it didn't have anything to do with the economy... I think the Chef is focusing on something completely different. Please check into this.

That is such a shame, especially since Majolica was one of the reasons to come to Phoenixville and was an important part of the resurgence of Phoenixville's downtown area. It's eclectic menu may have hurt it with the meat and potato crowd, but along with the wonderful Marly's and The Black Lab, it was always a real treat to dine out there. The town has lost one of its jewels.

Sorry to hear this news. I was a repeat customer. It was the most sophisticated cuisine in Phoenixville, and certainly ranked up there for Chester County. I think as more restaurants opened in Phoenixville, the nondiscriminatory palates from the area gravitated toward familiarity. At least we still have Birchrunville Cafe, and Restaurant Alba.

The fact was they did close, and then they reopened. This blog was consistently correct.

That's sad, that restaurant is a great attraction to the downtown area. I know I have some favorite places in Seattle, and I'd hate to see them go. Seattle Hotel Reservations (HTML deleted)
