'Le Bok Fin' popping up on a South Philly roof

On a clear day, you can see much of the city.

South Philly's casual-dining scene is looking up, at the very least for five weeks this summer.

The 8,000-square-foot rooftop terrace of the shuttered Edward W. Bok Technical High School in South Philadelphia will be the scene of a pop-up restaurant from Thursday through Sunday, from Aug. 7 to Sept. 13.

Developer Scout, which is working to repurpose the building at Ninth and Mifflin Streets into work space, is calling it Le Bok Fin - borrowing the name of the long-ago student-run restaurant, itself a play on Le Bec-Fin.

Scout's Lindsey Scannapieco says the caterer Fine Palate - which translates as "Le Bec-Fin" - will create casual French fare, such as cheese plates and charcuterie, steak tartare, croque monsieur, Nicoise salad and pot de creme, priced at $5.50 to $12.50.

Nine craft beers and six wines also will be available.

Scannapieco says the whole experience will be "nothing too fancy - we are trying to be approachable and most importantly just allow people to have fun, learn a bit about the building and enjoy the best view in Philly."

Hours will be 6 to 11 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, weather permitting; check Scout's Twitter for go/no info.

Free membership cards are available at the door.
