It's Pat's vs. Geno's on "Food Feuds"

Michael Symon

Philly stars in the debut episode of a Food Network series called Food Feuds, hosted by Iron Chef Michael Symon.

It's a look at local rivalries. Symon samples, confers with local experts, watches them work, and then announces his favorite.

When Philly based producer Marc Summers was casting about the country for conflict, Pat's and Geno's cross-street turf war stood out, he said.

Pat's and Geno's -- and the rivalry between Eileen’s Special Cheesecake and Junior’s Restaurant & Bakery in New York -- will be the subject of Oct. 10's premiere; 10 p.m. Food Network. (I appear in the episode, "helping" Symon choose a favorite.)

South Philly also figures into the show's Oct. 14 episode, which features two bastions of South Philly meatballs, Villa di Roma vs. Ralph’s.

Agreed, cuso. Tourist traps that have lived off their names for years.

Hopefully the judges aren't Latino or Herr Vento will have them forcefully removed from his premise.

My parents wanted to visit the infamous cheese steak palaces and upon our order and request for napkins we were promptly told to use our expensive shirts as napkins by the window clerk. That was the last visit I have ever made there and will never offer a rec. or directions. That was rude and uncalled for, especially for a tourist attraction.

Best Cheeseteaks in Philly are at... FRUSCO'S On The 7200 Block of Frankford Ave (Frankford & Wellington) Marlene (The Queen of Steaks) is always nice to me and never jams her politics down my throat, As Mr Vento has done to me many times in the past. Try The Pork Frusco and The Roast Beef Sammies... Yum

@nittany4 you sound like an unemployed ward of the state. Are your feelings hurt Joey Vento request people speak English in America when ordering food?

I never had a Geno's but I can say, Pat's has the distinction of not only being one of the worst cheese steaks I have ever had----it leads the all time list. This place is an embarrassment living on its laurels. It's just amazing that such poor quality can keep on packing the windows with a crowd. One thing is guaranteed, no one there once will ever come back for another. This place is BADDDDDDD!

Pick Geno's if you're looking for taste and Pat's if you want more than a bread with cheese.

Cheesesteaks are ok, but a true Philly sandwich is roast pork, and DiNic's makes a mean one (love the pulled Italian with hot peppers and sharp Prov.)

John's Roast Pork and Steve's are certainly the best. Frusco's is ok. Geno's is better than Pat's, for what it's worth.

Tony Luke's roast pork with broccoli rabe and mild provolone cheese is all you need to get.

Pat's and Geno's blow. John's Roast Pork, Philip's 23rd and Passyunk and Tony Luke smoke them all. Also, Jim's steaks suck. It's amazing that everybody thinks Jim's are good. Tourists and wannabe's don't have a clue!

Please don't try and convince anybody that any steaks outside of South Philly matter, especially in the Northeast.
