Indian restaurant Karma moves in Old City

Owner Jiji Thomas is aiming at an Aug. 22 opening in the restaurant space that has seen assorted operations, including Lena, Bluezette, and Prive.

Karma, the stylish Indian restaurant, is moving about two blocks in Old City, from its longtime home at 114 Chestnut St. to more spacious quarters at 246 Market St.

Owner Jiji Thomas is aiming at an Aug. 22 opening in the restaurant space that has seen assorted tenants, including Lena, Bluezette, and Prive.

Thomas said the new location has a better kitchen for catering, a facet of business that he and his partners wish to expand after more than a dozen years.

Also, Thomas believes that the new bar will be more conducive to late-night service than the current setup. The liquor license transfer is pending.

Karma opened at 114 Chestnut St. in 1997 under Munish Narula, who now owns Tiffin. An early review is here.
