Flying Fish Brewing to open a pub in Brewerytown

The N.J. brewery will feature specialty beers in its restaurant.

The brews are coming back to Brewerytown, all right.

Flying Fish Brewing Co.,  the largest craft brewer in New Jersey, says it will open a pub this fall at 31st and Master Streets in the new Fairmount @ Brewerytown rental community.

Flying Fish Crafthouse will serve an expansive menu including burgers and sandwiches. Two separate bars will serve Flying Fish seasonal and small-batch beers brewed at the plant in Somerdale, Camden County, and available exclusively on the premises. Flying Fish has a popular tasting room at its brewery.

Running the show will  be chef Brian Duffy, who plans to pair his food with the beers. In addition to sitdown service, the 191-seat restaurant will offer takeout, delivery, and "room service" to the apartments above. It will have outside brasserie seating, and an indoor beer garden with picnic tables. Decor will be environmentally friendly, including reclaimed wood and old industrial lights.

These are heady days for Brewerytown, that stretch of town west of Girard College and just east of the Philadelphia Zoo.

Crime & Punishment set up a brewpub last year at 2711 W. Girard Ave. Among the next projects will be an outpost of Pizza Brain, coming this fall to 2841-43 W. Girard Ave. and what is believed to be a bar or bottle shop coming to 2637 W. Girard Ave. The North Star, meanwhile, is keeping its renovation plans close to the proverbial vest.

They'll join such established spots as Butter's Soul Food (now at 2730 W. Girard), Spot Burgers (which took over Butter's former location, at 2821 W. Girard), Rybrew (2816 W. Girard), and the Monkey & the Elephant (2831 W. Girard). >
