Fire at Spread Bagelry

The shop, which opened Monday, is closed.

Firefighters responded to a small but smoky fire at Spread Bagelry, the Montreal-style bagel shop that opened Monday, May 2, at 262 S. 20th St.

Co-owner Mark Cosgrove said the vent attached to the bagel shop's kettle overheated and ignited wood. "We're lucky the whole building didn't go," he told me.

The shop, which he said will require about a week's repairs, is featured in today's Inquirer.
