Darling's Diner has shut down

Signs on the doors of the Northern Liberties restaurant said, "Business closed."

Darling's Diner seems done.

Once with three locations (including Rittenhouse and Logan Square), the 24/7 flagship location at the Piazza at Schmidt's (1033 Germantown Ave.) shut down the morning of Monday, May 11. The diner, which opened in 2009, was being cleared out midday. Signs on the doors said, "Business closed."

The Northern Liberties closing follows a busy Mother's Day.

As the closing had been rumored for some time, it does not appeared to be related to an assault on May 5 in which a man smashed a bottle against another man's head during a quarrel. (See police video here.)
