Last we heard from Sylva Senat, the Haitian-born New Yorker had been relieved of the executive chef's job at Tashan, the modern Indian destination on South Broad Street, and was considering a move back to the land of 212/718.

This is not to be.

Senat has landed as chef at The Saint James, the stylish (but critically panned) American bistro at Suburban Square.

Senat's new menu is a ways off, said co-owner Michael Schulson, who worked with Senat years ago when Schulson was executive chef at Buddakan New York.

Senat's remarkable career includes three years at Aquavit with Marcus Samuelsson, followed by a few years in the Jean-Georges Vongerichten orbit (Trump Hotel Central Park, 66 Leonard Street, Mercer Kitchen). Senat's first post in Philly was Buddakan.

He also is a local chef-mentor for the Careers Through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP).
