Biga, a 'grungy' Italian spot from Alba, coming to Bryn Mawr

It's inspired by such pizzerias as Roberta's in Brooklyn.

Homey and polished? Sean Weinberg will leave those attributes at his Restaurant Alba in Malvern.

For his next restaurant, he's using such adjectives as grungy and edgy.

Biga Pizza + Beer, which will take the ground floor of a building just off the intersection of County Line Road, Glenbrook Avenue, and Bryn Mawr Avenue in Bryn Mawr, will specialize in wood-fired pizza, a few pasta, small plates, and sandwiches. A solid craft beer selection will include growlers.

Interior will be brick-walled with an open kitchen, the better to see the Renato 700.

Running the kitchen will be exec chef Steve Fulmer, a former Alma sous chef whose resume includes the old Alison's at Blue Bell as well as stages at top pizzerias such as Zavino in Center City and Roberta's in Brooklyn - which is inspiring the pizza and the concept.

Biga, slang for a dough starter, will be open mornings for coffee and sweet zeppoli.

Projected opening is early March.
