BeerLOVE: Queen Village gets a bottle shop with taps

The storefront, across from Essene market and down the block from Famous 4th Street Deli, will be stocked with about 500 beers, plus a sizable collection of large-format beers. Fridges will be themed (e.g. Germans, Belgian-style, seasonals, saisons, IPAs, etc.).

Beer geek and reformed lawyer Kristen Cevoli says she and business partner Jon Shinners unlocked the door Saturday, Aug. 1 on BeerLOVE, their bottle shop-slash-tasting room at 714 S. Fourth St. in Queen Village.

The storefront, across from Essene market and down the block from Famous 4th Street Deli, is stocked with about 500 beers, plus a sizable collection of large-format beers. Fridges are themed (e.g. Germans, Belgian-style, seasonals, saisons, IPAs, etc.).

They also have eight beer taps dispensing many one-offs, to keep things interesting. Customers can sample beer flights, get a full pour, or fill a growler.

In a neat twist, they're setting up a Randall system, a filter known as an organoleptic hop transducer module. Devised by Sam Calagione at Dogfish Head in Delaware, it allows them to infuse beer with flavor-enhancing ingredients. (The infusions have not yet been determined.)

Opening tap list is:

  1. Victory Summer Love

  2. Schofferher Grapefruit Hefewizen

  3. Deschutes Chainbreaker

  4. Boulevard Lemon Radler

  5. Saison Dupont

  6. Lost Abbey Red Barn Saison

  7. Anchor Saison

  8. Boulevard Tank 7

Not much in terms of food - basically packaged bar snacks including popcorn, plaintain chips, jerky, pickles, s'mores. "We're not a bar," Cevoli said.

But they allow outside food. Let's say you picked up a pastrami on rye from Famous and brought it in to eat. "An IPA, definitely," said Cevoli.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
