Barren Hill Tavern & Brewery is listed for sale

It will remain open.

Erin Wallace, who opened Barren Hill Brewery & Restaurant in late 2013 on the longtime site of the General Lafayette Inn in Lafayette, is selling the place, confirming a notice on MoreThanTheCurve.com.

There's an actual flesh-and-blood story behind the listing, though.

Wallace says she is selling the place not because of soft business.

She and her husband and collaborator, Scott, are divorcing.

"It is what it is," she said in a phone chat. "We need to do this to move on."

She said the brewpub will remain open with no plans to shut down. Her other bar/restaurants, South Philadelphia's Devil's Den and Manayunk's Old Eagle Tavern, continue unaffected.

Erin Wallace recently founded a local chapter of Pink Boots Society, a women's beer organization, and is a popular figure on the local beer scene.

The property is listed at $1.85 million. It sits on 2-plus acres, and includes a bed-and-breakfast inn, a cottage, the liquor license, and brewing equipment.

Another Montgomery County brewpub, Guild Hall in Jenkintown, is also for sale. By coincidence, its co-owner, Owen Hutchins, was the head brewer for a long stretch at the General Lafayette.
