Agiato: Filling a knead for bread in Manayunk
Manayunk gets a bread bakery. But where's the companion restaurant?
The long-long-delayed Agiato Bread Co. has opened in Manayunk, as noted by Brownstoner, and it's selling loafs and such from 7 a.m. till 7 p.m. at 4351 Main St.
There may be light at the end of the tunnel for the companion paninoteca/wine bar Agiato, a few doors up the street at 4359 Main. When I first mentioned it nearly a year ago, owner Joscph Scarpone and investors were taking about a fall 2009 rollout.
The whole project quickly became mired in zoning issues. Another hearing is scheduled for next month, and Scarpone tells me he's now aiming at a September opening. See Agiato's menu at its website.
Scarpone and his investors are readying Main Street Market for the corner of Main and Grape Streets for a late-August opening.
A lot happened in that year since work began. If you'll recall, Matt Levin was supposed to join Scarpone and partners in opening a barbecue restaurant nearby, but later that arrangement was scuttled. Levin just opened Adsum at Fifth and Bainbridge Streets with different investors.
