5 Starr restaurants are among the top 100 in U.S. sales

His top-grossing spot in 2013 was Buddakan New York, according to a trade publication.

Five of Stephen Starr's restaurants have made Restaurant Business magazine's list of top 100 independent restaurants, in terms of gross sales.

At 9 on the list was Buddakan New York, in Chelsea Market, did an estimated $21.5 million in 2013 sales.

At 70 was Parc on Rittenhouse Square, with an estimated $11.9 million.

At 92 was Buddakan Philadelphia in Old City, with an estimated $10.7 million.

At 96 was Morimoto in New York City (across the market from Buddakan), with an estimated $10.5 million.

At 97 was Continental Mid-town in Rittenhouse, with an estimated $10.3 million.

Besides the Starr restaurants, the only local presence on the list was the Lobster House in Cape May, which was ranked 41st.

At the top of the list was Tao Asian Bistro in Las Vegas, generating an estimated $67.6 million.

Starr did not provide sales figures to Restaurant Business, so the totals may be off. Starr told Crain's New York that his 2012 sales, throughout his restaurant empire, were to be $150 million.

Not on this 2013 list - probably because it opened midyear - was Le Diplomate in Washington, which Starr told the Washington Post was on track to do $16 million a year.
