6 under the radar makeup brands you should know

There’s an underground makeup revolution going on and only those invested in perusing the social media pages of young, trendsetting beauty social media stars will know.

The first day of 2016, I rang in the New Year in typical beauty blogger fashion – shopping for makeup online.

One of my favorite sites was having a sale on Morphe makeup and brushes, and I quickly grabbed 2 eye shadow palettes (each containing 35 colors) and a foundation brush before they sold out. My total was only $35.

Never heard of Morphe before? You're not alone.

There's an underground makeup revolution going on and only those invested in perusing the social media pages of young, trendsetting beauty social media stars will know. With the soaring popularity of vlogs, makeup aficionados not only know how to do a proper beat, but do it on a budget with quality makeup products from companies forged from social media fame.

If you have Sephora taste on a Walgreens budget, check out some of these companies before you go shopping.

Morphe

They only have one retail store in California, but I saw first hand the large cult following the brand's makeup brushes have manifested at beauty undustry event The Makeup Show a couple of years ago. The line was wrapped around the Jacob Javits Center with makeup lovers dying to get their hands these brushes. Devotees rave about the softness and quality. With price tags under $10, it's easy to see why they are so popular.

Anastasia Beverly Hills

While this company is definitely not under the radar when it comes to their top selling eyebrow products, what many people may not know is that Anastasia Beverly Hills has an impressive makeup line as well. One of the originators in the contour kit concept, it sold out in minutes. She's since added eye shadow palettes, lip products, and recently highlighting kits. You may catch a couple of her makeup products at Ulta. For the full range of products, shop the site.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics

Makeup artist Jeffree Star loves a bold lip so much he developed his own line of lightweight matte liquid to matte lip colors. The colors, as bold and fun as Star himself, can be found on the lips of the most popular makeup Instagram pages.

Dose of Colors

Another company that is often credited in Instagram photos with perfectly pigmented lips, whether matte or glossed, is Dose of Colors. The wide range of colors and formulas means there is something for everyone – from traditional to bold.

Color Pop Cosmetics

Quality does not have to equal jacked up prices. Take away the brand prestige and fancy packaging and you're left with a great product at reasonable prices. Enter Color Pop Cosmetics. With products under $10, you can't help but want to stock up. The company is even collaborating with model Karrueche Tran to release her own collection in early February (I hope it includes brow products).

Glossier
