PSPCA still closed

No adoptions available at shelter, but surgery and grooming have re-opened

Adoptions continue to be unavailable at the Pennsylvania SPCA on Erie Avenue near B Street.

The shelter was closed March 12 after an outbreak of an as-yet-diagnosed disease. The entire shelter was closed to be disinfected, after which grooming and surgical services were resumed.

Early in the week, the SPCA had hoped to reopen for adoptions, but that not has yet happened and the shelter does not have "a time frame for our reopening," according to director of communications Liz Romaine.

The shelter is dealing with "multiple pathogens," she said.

The grooming and surgery areas are quarantined from the animals hoping for adoption. PSPCA had been hoping to adopt out cats and kittens via a recreational vehicle outside the shelter, but that has not yet been put in place.
