Drexel Crew Finishes Strong at Navy Day Regatta

Philadelphia – Drexel Crew completed its first head competition on the familiar Schuylkill River at the 2011 Navy Day Regatta held on Saturday.

Drexel's novice eight finished second behind Pennsylvania with a time of 14:44.37. Catherine Hamilton coxed the Anna Marie Boat along with stroke Olivia Babiec, Emily Gartland, Meredith Bracken , Sierra Baca, Joy Yingling, Hilary Leifsen, Amanda Kleuser, and bow Bridget Pfiefer passed seven other shells.

The women's second varsity eight also clocked in a second place time behind Pennsylvania. The John A. Daskalakis boat with coxswain Alexandra Paulin, stroke Sarah Mackenzie, Elizabeth Daugherty, Elizabeth Campanella, Mallory Sykes , Amanda O'Malley, Colleen Delaney, Jackie Bender, and bow Asiya Mahmud recorded a runner-up time of 14:23.64.

The women's varsity eight capped off the day with a third place finish with a time of 14:34.48. Navy and Pennsylvania placed ahead of the Marlene Buckley boat, which featured coxswain Kerry Walsh, Julia Jackson, Emily Coyle, Juliana DeMarici, Alexa Antonioli, Elizabeth Bratton, Megan Bush, Mollie Cusack, and bow Samantha Cowan.

On the men's side, Drexel's novice eight shell had a solid showing in the opening race for Drexel. The Peggy Greenwalt featuring coxswain Victoria Kenion, stroke Dean Hill, Brian McCabe, Marko Durica, Cameron Staines , Philip Byers, Casimir Czworkowski, Grigorios Papadourakis, and bow Christian Ladd clocked in a second place time of 12:32.25 behind Navy.

The men's second varsity boat followed with a fifth place finish. The Annette Pennoni included coxswain Marc Smith, stroke Timothy Drake, Pete Eyrich, Michael Golden, Brent Basso, Kevin Rorabaugh, Matthew Ryan, John Pieper, and bow Will Masters.

Randall Lee coxed the Vince Vidas boat along with stroke Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Kurt Linton, Vanja Busic, Michael Faust, Brian Timlin, Sebastian Ryan, and bow Patrick McGann to a fifth place finish in the men's varsity eight event.
