Saint Joseph's Parks And Gallagher Named to NFCA All-Region Teams

PHILADELPHIA – For the first time since 2002, the Saint Joseph’s softball team has placed multiple honorees on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Northeast Region Teams. Hawks’ sophomore outfielder Dana Parks (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) earned All-Northeast Region First Team honors, while junior pitcher Erin Gallagher (Abington, Pa./St. Basil’s Academy) was selected to the All-Northeast Region Second Team, organization officials announced on Thursday.

PHILADELPHIA – For the first time since 2002, the Saint Joseph's softball team has placed multiple honorees on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Northeast Region Teams. Hawks' sophomore outfielder Dana Parks (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) earned All-Northeast Region First Team honors, while junior pitcher Erin Gallagher (Abington, Pa./St. Basil's Academy) was selected to the All-Northeast Region Second Team, organization officials announced on Thursday.

Leading the Atlantic 10 in batting average (.435) and breaking the SJU single-season hits record (67), Parks garnered Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team honors as she helped SJU to a 31-16 record on the season. Starting 45 games in center field before injuring her ankle at the Atlantic 10 Championship, Parks additionally led the Hawks in runs scored (39) and set a new single-season mark for stolen bases with 20. Cracking the 100-hit plateau for her career earlier in the season, Parks also set career-highs in RBI (11), doubles (three) and triples (one), while posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. A 2011 A-10 Academic All-Conference Team selection, Parks was also named to the Carolina Classic All-Tournament Team as she helped SJU claim the tournament title this past February.

Proving to be one of the most prolific pitchers in Saint Joseph's history, Gallagher capped the season with her first regional recognition. The Hawks' ace dominated in the circle again this year, leading SJU in wins (22), strikes outs (215), earned run average (1.60), innings pitched (214.2) and shutouts (seven). Gallagher finished second in the A-10 in appearances (41), third in wins, ERA, and innings pitched and fourth in strike outs. Adding the second no-hitter of her career at George Washington on April 2, the two-time A-10 All-Conference Second Team honoree will enter her senior season just nine wins shy of surpassing SJU's all-time mark for victories (62) and only eight strike outs away from breaking the current all-time record of 534.

Parks and Gallagher, who helped SJU advance to its second A-10 title game last week, are the 18th and 19th Hawks to earn regional recognition, and the third and fourth to do so under head coach Terri Adams.
