Drexel Women's Lacrosse Defeats Delaware at Vidas Field, 11-8

Philadelphia – The Drexel women's lacrosse team defeated Delaware, 11-8, at Vidas Field. Drexel (8-3) outshot the Blue Hens (6-7) 28-22 and had six players score at least one goal. Freshman Amanda Norcini put the Dragons ahead at half and the team maintained the lead for the remainder of the game. The Dragons are now 2-0 in conference play.

Freshman Amanda Norcini put the Dragons ahead at half and the team maintained the lead for the remainder of the game. The Dragons are now 2-0 in conference play.

Junior Charlotte Wood led the Dragons with four goals. Wood now has 33 goals on the season. Teammates Katie Blazer and Amanda Norcini both recorded a pair of goals in the first half. Lindsey Kovar, Alyse Maiden and Kelli Joran also scored for Drexel.

After six scoreless minutes, Morgan Leonard scored an unassisted goal and gave the Blue Hens a 1-0 lead. Katie Blazer scored back-to-back goals to rally the Dragons. Delaware's Julianna Jeffers capitalized on a free position opportunity and tied the game, 3-3, with five minutes remaining in the first half. Freshman Amanda Norcini gave Drexel a one-goal lead, 4-3, at half.

Drexel was able to take the lead, 7-3, after three quick goals in the beginning of the second half. Delaware's Corrine Drost scored at 27:45 drawing the game within three goals. But the Dragons went on a two-goal run and held on to the lead until time expired.

Senior goalkeeper Whitney Johnson tallied eight saves. Johnson now has 59 saves on the season. Drexel's Sarah Bauer led the team in caused turnovers.

The Drexel women's lacrosse team travels to Old Dominion on Friday, April 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the third Colonial Athletic Association game of the season.
