Johns Hopkins Defeats Drexel, 10-7, in Women's Lacrosse

Philadelphia – Johns Hopkins edged the Drexel women 10-7 in a tightly contested women's lacrosse game. The Dragons held on to a 5-4 lead at halftime, but the Blue Jays would outscore the Dragons 6-2 in the second half to pull out the victory. Drexel compiled a 4-2 record in its six-game homestead at Vidas Field.

Senior Katie Blazer and junior Charlotte Wood led the Dragons' attack with two goals, while teammate Alyse Maiden registered two assists. Wood now has 28 goals on the season. Freshman Amanda Norcini and Kelli Joran also put points on the board for Drexel.

Drexel's Charlotte Wood scored in the opening minutes of the game. Johns Hopkins answered back with two unassisted goals by Taylor D'Amore and Brianna Cronin. The Dragons were down 3-2, but started a three goal rally after Katie Blazer's goal. The Blue Jays' Collen McCaffrey scored a free position goal and closed the gap to a one, 5-4, at half.

Johns Hopkins was able to take the lead, 7-5, after three quick goals in the beginning of the second half. Drexel's Amanda Norcini scored at 14:54 drawing the game within a goal. But the Blue Jays went on a two-goal run and maintained possession, as well as the lead, until the time expired.

Senior goalkeeper Whitney Johnson tallied five saves in 44:54, while freshmen Amanda Santandrea recorded two saves in 15:06 for the Dragons. Blazer led the team in caused turnovers.

The Drexel women's lacrosse team travels to Towson on Friday, April 8 at 4:00 p.m. in the first Colonial Athletic Association game of the season.
