Drexel Divers Sweep Events on Senior Day

Philadelphia – Despite a number of strong individual performances, the Drexel men's and women's swimming and diving fell short against opponents Delaware and Northeastern this weekend. The Dragons ended with the day with five first place finishes.

Philadelphia – Despite a number of strong individual performances, the Drexel men's and women's swimming and diving fell short against opponents Delaware and Northeastern this weekend. The Dragons ended with the day with five first place finishes. Armagan Yavuz shined on Senior Day taking first place in two events. The Turkish native registered a top time of 1:55.49 in the 200-yard butterfly event and clocked in at 51.77 for a new career best in the 100-yard butterfly. Fellow senior teammate Matthew Tannenbaum captured a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 21.77. Gregory Oprendek recorded a time of 2:10.95 in the 200-yard breaststroke missing first place by a second. Drexel's men's swimming team had the top three finishes in the 200-yard IM. Freshman Sean Kirwin finished with a time of 2:00.55 followed by teammates Gregory Oprendek and Ilan Khayt. Drexel's Victoria Mayer clocked in at 2:19.04 in the 200 yard butterfly for a new personal best time. Megan Halicek and Ian Jevnick dominated the boards with first places in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Jevnick bested Delaware's divers with a score of 381.00 in the 3-meter and 329.40 in the 1-meter event. Sophomore Stephen Cal placed second behind Jevnick in the 1-meter event with a score of 264.40. Drexel swimming and diving returns to action on Friday as the Dragons host Navy in a non-conference meet at Drexel Pool.
