Temple's Peddy Scores 23 in Women’s Basketball’s 79-56 Defeat of Northern Illinois

PHILADELPHIA – Junior Shey Peddy scored a game-high 23 points in the Temple women’s basketball team’s second-straight win, a 79-56 defeat of visiting Northern Illinois (3-2). The Owls held the Huskies scoreless from the field for nearly a 15-minute stretch in the second half.

Temple (2-2) got 13 points from BJ Williams who came off the bench to hit 4-of-6 from the field including two three-pointers. Williams also led the Owls with a game-high six assists. Natasha Thames was 3-of-5 under the basket for six points and led Temple with eight rebounds.

Qwedia Wallace was strong out of the gate for Temple, making back-to-back layups to start an 8-0 opening run.

Peddy was unstoppable in the first 10 minutes, scoring 14 points as the Owls jumped out to a 13-point, 25-12 lead.

The Huskies responded and eventually to pulled within as few as three points thanks to 52 percent shooting in the half. Peddy hit her last bucket of the half in the final minute to give Temple a seven-point, 40-33 lead at the break.

Northern Illinois was still within two to three possessions with eight minutes remaining in the game, but a 59-49 Temple lead at 7:59 turned into a 72-49 lead before the Huskies got their next points on the board with three and a half minutes remaining.

After scoring a jumper five minutes into the second half, the Huskies did not hit again from the field until just over a minute remained in the game.

Temple shot close to 58 percent in the second half and committed only eight turnovers in the game compared to 17 for Northern Illinois.

The Owls will now head west to California for their next two games at Pepperdine and #13/13 UCLA. First up is a contest at Pepperdine at 2:00 p.m. (PST) on Friday, Nov. 26.
