Drexel women's basketball beats Penn

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Drexel defense held Penn scoreless for a span of 12 minutes in the second half as the Dragons cruised to a 62-31 victory on Friday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Jasmina Rosseel led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points as Drexel improved to 2-0 on the season.

The Dragons started out slow and were held scoreless for the first 9:39 of the game. However, Penn was able to muster just nine points while holding Drexel off the board. Jackie Schluth finally broke the drought on a short jumper for Drexel and that got the Dragons going. It was the first of 20 straight points for the Dragons. Seven different players scored points during the run as Drexel went to the break ahead, 22-12. That was as close as the Quakers would be the rest of the way. The Dragons opened the second half with a 16-2 run to blow the game wide open.

The Dragons' defense held the Quakers to 11 field goals in the game and just 22 percent shooting in the game. Drexel, on the other hand, caught fire after the slow start and ended the game by making 49 percent form the floor and 7-for-17 from long range.

Rosseel made three three-pointers and also had five assists and five rebounds. Hollie Mershon was also in double figures with 10 points, all in the second half. She also had three of the teams 14 steals. Drexel forced 22 Quaker turnovers in the game.

Drexel aims for its third straight win on Nov. 23 when it hosts Saint Joseph's at the DAC. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
