M. Soccer: La Salle's Dundon Earns Academic All-America Recognition

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle junior defender Nick Dundon (Horsham, PA/UW-Milwaukee) was named to CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-America Third Team, announced on Thursday morning.

Dundon earned the distinction after becoming eligible for the national ballot, thanks to his recognition on the Academic All-District First Team three weeks ago.

"It's always nice when a player of the quality of Nick Dundon is able to achieve some recognition," Head Coach Pat Farrell said. "It's a nice award and recognition for a fellow who has added so much to our program."

The Horsham, PA, native and transfer from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was one of the unsung heroes on an Explorer squad that posted eight shutouts en route to a berth in the Atlantic 10 Championship title game. Dundon, originally a midfielder, moved to the backfield in the third game of the 2010 season and has been there since. After giving up eight goals in the first two games, the Explorers held opponents to 1.2 goals per game after Dundon switched positions.

Dundon was also a big part of the defense that held four 1-0 leads, tied then-No. 5 Lehigh 0-0 in double overtime and earned the 1-1 double OT tie against 2007 College Cup participant Massachusetts. He helped anchor the squad to three straight shutouts, including the final two games of the regular season that pushed the team to the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship as well as the Explorers' semifinal win over 2009 defending champion Saint Louis.

The junior biology major is also a standout in the classroom, boasting a 3.95 grade point average. He has earned Academic All-District First Team honors as well as being a consistent member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

"Nick is one of the easiest players I've ever coached because of the qualities he brings to practice each and every day. He's focused, he concentrates and always looks to push the bar," Farrell added. "Those same qualities obviously show up in the classroom also and have enabled him to have success in the classroom." #space #column-right
