Saint Joseph's Women's Soccer Players Earn Postseason Honors

Saint Joseph's freshman forward Mo Hawkins and junior midfielder Maggie Lupinski were recognized for their outstanding play during the 2010 season by the Atlantic 10 women's soccer coaches. Hawkins was named to the A-10 All-Conference Second Team and All-Rookie Team, while Lupinski earned Honorable Mention All-Conference accolades, conference officials announced on Wednesday.

An A-10 Preseason All-Rookie Team selection, Hawkins lived up to the hype, leading the Hawks in assists (five) and finishing second on the team in points (21) and goals (eight). Tied for eighth in the conference in assists, Hawkins tied for the second most assists in a season in team history, while her 21 points tied for sixth and eight goals ranked seventh.

Hawkins excelled in Atlantic 10 matches as she recorded five goals during the nine-game conference slate. Tying for sixth in points (10) and fourth in goals (five) in conference games, Hawkins is the seventh Hawk to earn All-Rookie honors and just the third Hawk to earn both All-Rookie and All-Conference selections in her first season.

"Coming into the season, we had high expectations for Mo, and she surpassed all of them," said head coach Jess Reynolds. "We're really glad she was honored not only as one of the top rookies in the league, but also as one of the top players in the Atlantic 10."

Starting all 18 games in the midfield after an injury-shortened 2009 campaign, Lupinski was an important part of both the Hawks' offense and defense. Tying for second on the squad in assists (three) and third in points (five), she helped Saint Joseph's improve its assist and points output from the previous season.

"We're very excited that Maggie was recognized for her play. She often does the small things that go unnoticed, but she has been a major reason for our team's success," Reynolds said.
