Bill Iezzi: Indy Trio Wins Awards

While I was watching the Independence soccer team practice Wednesday at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, I received breaking news.

Coach Paul Riley, forward Veronica Boquete and center back Nikki Krzysik won awards.

Players, coaches, fans and members of the media voted Riley Coach of the Year for the second time in as many seasons. The same group voted for Boquete as Player of the Year.

Coaches and players voted team captain Krzysik Citi Sportswoman of the Year for her leadership on and off the field.

The affable and loquacious Riley led the team to an 11-4-3 regular-season record and a second straight playoff berth.
