Best and Worst: Sixers vs. Hawks

Here is my look at the best and worst performances from the 76ers 99-92 loss to the Altanta Hawks before 15,212 on Wednesday at the Wells Fargo Center.

Best performance: Sixers center Richaun Holmes scored a career high 25 points in 31 minutes and 40 seconds. Holmes shot 11 for 16 from the field, 1 of 3 from three point range and made both free throws. He also had eight rebounds.

Worst performance: On a night the Sixers needed a spark off the bench, Gerald Henderson had a rough evening from the perimeter. Henderson scored five points, but shot just 2 for 10 from the field, including 1 of 6 from three point range.

Best performance by a Hawk: Center Dwight Howard reverted to his all-star days with 22 points and 20 rebounds. Howard, an eight-time all-star, whose last selection was 2014, had eight offensive boards, only five fewer than the Sixers. He shot 8 of 17 from the field, but more surprisingly hit his first six free throws and was 6 of 7 from the foul line.

Best defensive performance: Ex-Sixer Ersan Ilyasova guarded Dario Sario for most of the night and held him to 5 for 18 shooting, including 2 of 8 from beyond the arc. Ilyasova also added one blocked shot in 32 minutes and 26 seconds.

Worst statistic: Hawks point guard Dennis Schroder is cat-quick and frequently got by the Sixers defense, but committed nine turnovers, or one more than the rest of his teammates.

Worst statistic Part II: The Sixers only attempted 11 free throws (making 9). Conversely, Atlanta was 22 of 26 from the foul line.

Best statistic: Hawks guard Kent Bazemore scored 19 points in 19 minutes and 56 seconds off the bench. Bazemore was a blazing 4 of 5 from three point range.

Best statistic Part II: The Sixers had 30 assists on their 36 field goals. They showed great teamwork, but often were guilty of being too unselfish, passing up open shots.

Up next: The Sixers (28-47) visit the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.

Fast fact: The Sixers finished 0-4 this season against the Hawks,

Quotable: "He is very physical, especially going to offensive boards, his game is predicated on physicality and he was very physical tonight and he is an imposing presence and I just tried to do the best I could against him." – Richaun Holmes on going up against Dwight Howard
