Thomas impressive in debut

Adonis Thomas was only on the court for the final 7 minutes, 53 seconds, but took advantage of the opportunity.

MEMPHIS – Adonis Thomas was only on the court for the final 7 minutes, 53 seconds of Friday's 117-95 setback to his hometown Memphis Grizzlies.

But the player on a 10-day contract with the 76ers took advantage of the opportunity, scoring four points on 2-for-3 shooting at FedExForum.

"I just wanted to stay aggressive," Thomas said of his Sixers' debut. "I think I did a great job. Coach [Brett Brown] put me in there. One of the biggest things they want me to do is be aggressive no matter how much time you get. Just go in there and give your all."

His aggressive play isn't the only reason why this will be a memorable game for the 6-foot-7 swingman.  The former University of Memphis standout received a loud ovation from the 17,456 in attendance when he checked into the game.  He also had around 25 family members and friends who purchased tickets.

"It was a dream come true just to wear an NBA jersey in Memphis," said Thomas, who went undrafted this past summer after two seasons at Memphis. "It was great. This is a basketball city.  With me playing my entire career here, [Memphis fans] just want to see you succeed at the end of the day.

"There were a lot of supporters here tonight. I'm just thankful to be able to come back home and play."

Thomas was called up from the Springfield Armor of the NBA Development League.  He had consecutive 10-day contracts with the Orlando Magic last month. The 21-year-old averaged 1.8 points and six minutes in four games with Orlando.
