Sixers add Todd Wright to staff

The 76ers announced Thursday the hiring of Todd Wright as assistant coach/head of strength and conditioning.

SALT LAKE CITY – The 76ers announced Thursday the hiring of Todd Wright as assistant coach/head of strength and conditioning.

Jesse Wright, the Sixers' previous head strength and conditioning coach, has been promoted to the newly created performance science position.

Todd Wright, no relation to Jesse, spent the past 14 seasons as strength and conditioning coach for the University of Texas men's basketball team.

"We feel fortunate to now call Todd Wright a Sixer," general manager Sam Hinkie said in a press release. "His reputation as a trainer of basketball players is second to none. His values and his ability to form genuine, lasting relationships with athletes to help them achieve their goals are both heavily aligned with our organization and with our player development in Philly."

Hinkie said he booked a flight to Austin, Texas "within 10 minutes" once it became clear that the Longhorns would make changes to their basketball program. Texas fired coach Rich Barnes in March after 17 seasons on the job.

Wright is also a well-respected speaker on strength and conditioning. This announcement comes after the Sixers publicized the hiring of David T. Martin as director of health and performance research and development on June 29.

"Our additions of Dr. David T. Martin and Todd Wright are further evidence of our desire to be considered world class in the fields of sports science and athletic performance," Hinkie said.

Jesse Wright will work closely with the two new hires. The focus will be on applying the "newest training, fitness and recovery initiatives."
