Hinkie takes in Sixers game in Vegas

LAS VEGAS – Sam Hinkie was in the building here at the NBA Summer League.

The 76ers former president and general manager attended Sunday night's matchup between the Sixers and Chicago Bulls at the Thomas & Mack Center. He is expected to be here at the summer league all week.

Shortly after being hired in May 2013, Hinkie embarked on a three-year rebuilding project that was dubbed "The Process." The Sixers used the three seasons for player development, evaluating talent, and developing a culture. In the process, they kept losing enough games to secure top draft picks. The only problem was the once-proud franchise turned into the laughingstock of the NBA.

"The Process" brought a lot of pain and humiliation and a less-than-desirable place in NBA history for the team.

The Sixers finished this past season with league-worst 10-72 record. They are 47-199 since the start of the 2013-14 season.

Hinkie stepped down on April 6 after being asked to take a lesser role in the franchise to make way for Bryan Colangelo, who replaced him as team president.

While there was pain and humiliation, his tactics led to the Sixers getting the first overall pick in the NBA draft. The team used that pick to select Ben Simmons.   Hinkie also left the Sixers with a lot of cap space, future draft picks and assets.
