'Best' & 'Worst' awards: Sixers vs. Nets

My look at some of the best and worst performances from the Nets 105-101 victory over the 76ers Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center:

Best performance:  Even in defeat, this award goes to Hollis Thompson. The Sixers swingman put on a three-point shooting clinic, making a career-best 6 of 8 attempts. Thompson finished with 18 points. The rookie made three-pointers on consecutive possessions closed the gap to two points, 103-101, with 11.5 seconds remaining. Thompson made all three of his three-point attempts after intermission.

Worst performance: This goes to James Anderson. The Sixers shooting guard was basically a bystander.  He missed seven of his nine shot attempts to finish with five points.  Anderson didn't have the worst shooting performance. Nets reserve guard Marcus Thornton went 1-for-10 from the field. But Thornton contributed in other ways and his two foul shots with 7.3 seconds left gave the Nets a four-point cushion.  Meanwhile, Anderson failed to get to the foul line and had zero assists.

Best defensive performance: Kevin Garnett gets this one even though he only played for 13 minutes, 12 seconds. The Nets center blocked a shot and had a steal in his first game back after missing 19 straight with back spasms. Garnett also had four rebounds – three on the defensive end – to go with 10 points.

Best performance by a Net: Deron Williams wins this award. The point guard finished with 19 points and nine assists. He scored six of his points in the fourth quarter on a three-point shot and three clutch foul shots.

Worst statistic: This award goes to the Nets' three-point shooting. They made just 6 of 21 three-point attempts (28.6 percent).

Best statistic: This goes to the Nets' points in the paint. They made their share of  layups and dunks en route to scoring 60 points in the paint.
