Phillies trade Ben Revere to Toronto

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. was interrupted by his phone's ringtone on Friday afternoon as he discussed the team's trade of Cole Hamels to Texas. Amaro had a message. Another trade - the team's third in four days - was near completion. Ben Revere was being sent to Toronto.

Revere - one of the team's most rumored players to be traded - said before Friday's game that he was traded to Toronto. The Phillies acquired minor-league righthanders Jimmy Cordero and Alberto Tirado.

Cordero, 23, was promoted to double A in May. He has pitched 50 outings this season, all out of relief. He has a 2.70 ERA in 32 games at double A. He has struck out 46 batters and walked 20. He throws a blazing fastball, which has registered at 103 MPH.

Tirado, 20, is also a relief pitcher. He had a 3.23 ERA in 31 appearances in high-A. He has struck out 61 batters in 61.1 innings. He throws a mid-90s fastball with a slider and changeup.

Revere, 27, is batting .298 this season in 366 at-bats. He has walked just 19 times and stolen 24 bases. The outfielder moved from center field to  left field during spring training to make way for rookie Odubel Herrera. Revere has spent time this season at all three outfield positions. Revere's contract allows him to stay under Toronto's control until after the 2017 season.

With Revere's departure, the Phillies promoted Jordan Danks from triple-A Lehigh Valley. Danks spent parts of the last three seasons in the big leagues with the Chicago White Sox. The Phillies signed him this offseason and invited him to spring training. He played all three outfield positions with the IronPigs and hit .245 in 94 games.
