Phillies outright Sean O'Sullivan to triple A

The Phillies outrighted struggling righthander Sean O'Sullivan to triple-A Lehigh Valley after Monday night's marathon 10-7 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

LOS ANGELES — The Phillies outrighted struggling righthander Sean O'Sullivan to triple-A Lehigh Valley after Monday night's marathon 10-7 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

O'Sullivan in the game allowed six earned runs for the third consecutive start. The 27-year-old posted a 6.08 ERA over 13 outings.

It is not yet known who will take O'Sullivan's rotation spot and start Saturday's game in San Francisco. The Phillies recalled reliever Hector Neris to join the bullpen at least until then.

David Buchanan is slated to start Tuesday for Lehigh Valley. The Phillies could keep his start brief - in essence making it a glorified bullpen session - and fly him out to the West Coast for Saturday. Or perhaps they will promote top pitching prospect Aaron Nola, whose fifth day falls on Thursday and is slated to pitch in the Futures Game on Sunday, and have him pitch on a week's rest?

Tuesday should provide more clarity.
