Jimmy Rollins joins TBS for playoff coverage

Jimmy Rollins is headed back to the playoffs.

Well, as a broadcaster.

Rollins will work for TBS as a studio analyst during the postseason, the network announced on Friday afternoon. The former Phillies shortstop starts this Sunday as TBS will have pre-game coverage for the final two Sunday "MLB on TBS" games of the regular season.

TBS holds the rights this season to the American League wild card game, American League division series, and American League championship series. Rollins will be joined in the studio by Gary Sheffield and former Phillies teammate Pedro Martinez. Rollins and Pedro in the same studio sounds like the team to beat.

Rollins worked with Fox Sports earlier this summer as a studio analysts. He latched on with the Chicago White Sox at the end of spring training and was released in June. Rollins, who turns 38 in November, has yet to officially retire.

"I am thrilled to be joining the Turner family," Rollins said in a statement. "This is a fantastic crew that includes a Hall of Famer, one of the greatest all around hitters of my era and an excellent host.  I am looking forward to learning from their experience and contributing the knowledge that I've gained over 17 years in a big league uniform."
