Salinitri-Konecny connection sparks Flyers rookies past Islanders

After the morning skate, Flyers prospect  Anthony Salinitri said he was excited to play on the same line as Travis Konecny in an all-rookie game against the New York Islanders on Wednesday night.

"We have some chemistry already," he said.

About eight hours later, Salinitri looked prophetic.

The 5-foot-10, 173-pound left winger scored the game's first goal _ assisted by Konecny, of course _ as the Flyers defeated the host Islanders, 4-0.

Salinitri and Konency were linemates with Sarnia in the Ontario Hockey League last season. Konecny was traded from Ottawa to Sarnia during the campaign.

Konecny "plays fast, similar to me," said Salinitri, 18, who had 17 goals for Sarnia last season and was chosen by the Flyers in the sixth round of the June draft.  "We try to use our speed and just find each other."

As for the rest of camp, Salinitri said he wanted to "turn some heads. There's going to be a lot of (Flyers executives) watching, and I just want to prove to myself that I can compete with all these guys."

So far, so good.

Game stuff. Reading native Steve Swaveley, Tyrell Goulbourne (two points), and Carsen Twarynski scored the other goals for the Flyers, who outshot the Isles, 37-28.

Goulbourne, a third-round draft pick in 2013, and Twarynski (a third-rounder last June) scored shorthanded tallies late in the game.

Alex Lyon and Carter Hart combined for the shutout.

"It was a really positive night and a real good effort," Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said. "Overall, individuals on the team got better from start to finish."

The Flyers' 21 prospects will join the veterans for the team's main camp, which starts Friday at 9:45 a.m. in Voorhees. All sessions are free and open to the public.

General manager Ron Hextall said some of the Flyers' World Cup players will start filtering into camp next week.
